Love football; no duh! Never played in school but was on the field every Friday night to photograph the Soph, JV and Varsity games in HS so I really got to know the game. Even got our QB to tell me some signals so I would know if a run play was coming my way. Started as an Assistant Coach in the summer of 2008 and the head coached this past summer. The joke among the parents of the kids I've joked is they are not sure who has more fun, me or the kids. I have two sons ages 9 and 6 and will coach both in January when our winter flag season begins. Winter in So CA means most days are between 75 and 80. On the pro side I follow the Steelers and have done so for over 10 years, not just because they completed their six pack at the SB last year.

Newspaper Ads For Flag Program

Hello All:

I'm working closely with our local YMCA to improve their flag football program and I've mentioned to them that their local newspaper ads could be more dynamic than what they have presented in the past. Because I'm in marketing/advertising for a living, I have some of my own ideas, but I thought I'd reach out to the group to see what if any ideas you might have. What's worked and not worked; specifically was there anything in an add that you thought led to greater enrollment/signups. I would love to see PDFs of ads that have worked but I'll take just commentary...anything would be appreciated.

9/10 Year Wildcat Plays

So I don't know about the rest you, but Miami's Wildcat certainly keeps me entertained...or maybe it's just Coach Gruden gaffawwing over it every week. Curious, is anybody trying to incorporate a Wildcat into a 5 on 5 no QB run offense. If so, any success? Also, in my Y league, I've never seen anyone run motion plays...let alone Wildcat and I really want to try some in January. I don't think they are prohibited, just no one runs them. Do any of you run them and how have they worked? A friend suggested that I let the refs know pre-game that I plan to run motion plays so they are ready for it and understand what the O is doing.

5 0N 5 Plays For 6-7 Year Olds

First off my thanks to all the dads and coaches who have posted play books. The plays really are fantastic and have made my job so much easier. Last year was my first as a head coach and we made it to the playoffs (lost in the first round to the #1 team, but all in all we did okay). I'll start my second year with 9/10 year olds in January, so time will tell if season two is as good. I'll also be coaching my 6 year old. Does anyone have plays or other thoughts on coaching this age group? I helped out last year (the coaches meant well but didn't seem to know how to coach... their drills were weak and they never even taught a proper hand-off) but I was not an official coach. From what I observed, it seems best to stick to hand offs because passing and catching seems risky. Any thoughts, suggested plays or advice would be greatly welcomed.
