  1. Our first game. We played a club soccer (playing flag) team who was the fastest I have ever seen. We got beat 55 to 14. All but 2 of my players have played before and I had to explain the LOS to all them..urrrrr. The kids did get better throughout the game. They learned to stay in their zones and how to set picks against man defense. The last 2 series we got a stop and scored. Wish I could of had the posts ya'll usually have.
  2. Orange hit on it. I have never been in an allday FF tournament, but I have with baseball. Control the kids! They will be excited and want to run around like crazy between games and if you have a long wait they will get plum tuckered out. If you have over a two hour wait, have a small healthy lunch where everyone sits together and eats very slowly. Put the kids in groups and play little games. Good Luck!
  3. We are allowed in the huddle, but have to be off the field within 20 seconds, so I'm not sure how I am going to do it yet. I will be more tired than the kids running on and off the field.
  4. I have been coaching flag for 4 years (not all head coach)with last year being the best (8-9 yr olds). We basically had 2 formation, running lots of end reverses and dbl reverses. It was easy because even if we passed, everyone did the exact same thing. The problem was by the end of the year the defense started to catch on to runs and the offense got boring. I have looked at ALL of the play books on here and read all the great advice. My question is with only 2 practices before gametime (we don't start till Nov. 14th (10-11 yr olds)), how many formations should I try and get the kids use to? How many plays is enough? Do you actually give play books out. When I have given the playbook out last year NOBODY looked at them outside of practice. Do you require the QB's to try and memorize all the plays? I did have a question about getting the play going on time, but just read on that. We never really had a time limit before this year. I am going to the wristband colors for simplification, and naming the plays to reflect exactly what is going on ex. Trips left hb fake red flag, the point out the other routes. Thanks in advance, Chad
  5. I can give you a scenerio I use in fallball baseball. I leave the pitcher catcher and 1st base the same for an inning. All the rest after an out, walk, or hit they move over 1 spot. Ex 2nd to ss, ss to 3rd, 3rd to lf, etc. Depending on what baseline (we will say 1st), rt field goes to the last bench spot (out4) and (out1) goes to 2nd. Kids love it and they stay ready to play all the time. I am not sure if it would work for football, but just wanted to give a crazy idea.
  6. Thank you for your opinion. I will try and do what you said to spread the field and not bunch everyone up in the same hole.
  7. Our league is 6 vs 6 rush after 5 sec and you can only get in the way to block. QB can't run either. Do you think this will work. They are 10-11 years old. readoption.bmp
  8. One flag pulling drill I did before the game called the "gauntlet" 1 runner two lines of kids with enough room for the ball carrier to run through. On "GO" the ball carrier runs through the line whomever pulls the flag 1st gets to run next. The runner goes to the end of one of the lines. The kids love it and get very excited. If nobody pulls a flag he goes again. The kids will bunch up so you have to keep spreading them apart the 1st few times. xxxx 0 -------------> xxxx
  9. I have been coaching flag football for about 5 years with very good success. Success = kids having a great time, every kid personally getting a touchdown or extra point, and finally winning usually (this doesn't mean much to me). My son is moving up to 10-11 year old league. Last year for about 3/4 of the year it was 70% run 30% pass, but at the end you noticed kids able to shut the run down a little so we had to pass more. If someone has coaching experience at this 10-11 yr old group, is passing a much bigger part of the game plan. It is an YMCA league and we haven't started yet, but I am wanting to get ahead of the curve. I am also adding the play that I used all year last year that worked great! It was funny to hear the other coach yell "reverse----double reverse---then triple reverse?" It is easy because everyone does the samething everytime. I got this from another website. Thanks, Chad Formation Descriptio2.doc
  10. We actually had 12 on our team and only 6 played. Usually we did not have 12 there so we switched every 5th play. It kept the kids into the games and they always had to be ready. I made sure I split them up to always have a couple good players on the field. It takes a little work and a team mom who knows what to do, but the kids love it.
