fmfjohn 0 Report post Posted November 26, 2003 I've asked this question at another forum awhile back and didn't seem to find any interest, but maybe someone here has an opinion or two to share.I resently was offered $200-$300 from my AD to start a volleyball video library for the school; to be used by our teams and the PE dept. Naturally, I hopped right on the internet and began to look around. Not only was I overwhelmed by the sheer number, but I also got a serious case of Sticker Shock! I was also exasperated by the really poor descriptions many, if not most of the films had.So.. If you were going to buy a selection of videos, which ones would you get, and why? And if you have already purchased a number of them, which one(s) would you like a refund on?Thanks for your consideration, and possible recommendations. john

fmfjohn 0 Report post Posted December 23, 2003 Carlos,I was beginning to think that nobody but me was interested. As I mentioned, I had posted a similiar question on another forum, and just before you responded, a German coach e-mailed me with a four cassett series that he thought was really good. Unfortunately, and quite naturally, they were in German So...after seeing Coach Mary Wise give a short clip during a break in last weekend's NCAA Championships, I am going to order two of her videos - uncertain which ones - and I will post my thoughts on them (for what that's worth:) If you come up with anything, let me (us, if anyone else bothers) know. Thanks john
fmfjohn 0 Report post Posted December 31, 2003 Carlos,From another forum I got THE ANSWER regarding volleyball video. Rob Slavin, Pres. of the Mass. Girls Volleyball Coaches Assoc. sent me the url of his org's web site which has, among other things, a video library. Not only is it in excess of 100 films ( or thereabouts) but it also has an excellent description of each. (prints 14 pages!) He also mentioned, as does the web site, that members can "borrow" the videos for a very nominal fee. I am sure you will want to check it out for yourself. www.mgvca.org. Hope this helps you as much as it will me.Anyone else reading this ought to check it too. let me know what you think. john

macb 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2004 Hi all, I just came across this site, and like the idea of it. Coaches should get together and share tips, etc, more than what occurs now.For volleyball videos, I've seen a few of the sports performance videos, from Rick Butler and co, from Chicago, IL. There is good, detailed information breaking down technique and great info on gameplay. Check those out, if anyone is still looking for a recommendation on this topic!Mac
fmfjohn 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2004 Mac,Thanks for the msg. I had almost forgetten about it, but had looked at a few vb videos and finally bought two of Coach Wise's. Must admit that I hate to pay ~$40.00 for each. At this point I think that their primary benefit is for the girls to get to see other girls performing the skills, not some old coach Anyway, I plan to expand the library a couple videos at a time as we go along. I searched for info on Rick Butler videos without success. Could you provide an address or url? Thanks again for the info. john
Naescire 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2004 Check half.com. You can pick up used videos for far less than new. Watch the dates on them as some can be rather old and somewhat outdated. Again though, you kinda run into the problem of somewhat vague discriptions. But, if you find a video do a search on the web for that specific title to see if you can find more out about it. <_>
Lando 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2004 I have found that Championship Productions to have very beneficial tapes with some of the most respected college coaches. They have instructional books and videos for nearly all sports. In my library, I have videos featuring Mary Wise and John Dunning. Lately, I've ordered videos that include Bond Shymansky and Chris Lamb. These videos were great. The Shymansky videos were more advanced than the Lamb series, but both provided outstanding information. If these interest you, their website is :Championship Productions
