Give Me Your Best Play Vs 1-1-3 Zone

The team we are going to play uses two zones, a 2-1-2 and a 1-1-3. I have a solid idea how I want to attack the 2-1-2, now I want to figure out the best way to attack the 1-1-3. Give me some ideas please.

Here is how they were playing the 1-1-3. One rusher who is very fast. One defender in the middle a couple yards off the center. He roams left to right with the quarterback and will come in immediately on a handoff or pitch. One middle defender deep, probably begins the play at 12+ yards in the middle. The remaining two defenders were positioned like corners over the wideouts. They began the play close to the line of scrimmage and dropped back into coverage with the deepest receiver on their side.

Here is a play I like against that defense: Run two wideouts wide and deep forcing the corner defenders to go long. Next I have a halfback swing out right and my center swing left at the line of scrimmage but wide. The QB waits until the rusher is on him, reads the middle defender and throws away from him.

Anyone have other plays to use against that defense?

Picking Apart The 2-1-2 Zone

I had a field day calling plays against the 2-1-2 zone we faced the last two weeks. They initially pinched their corners in towards the middle effectively shutting down runs. So I faked the run and had my wideouts move towards the sideline and just sit there for a pass. On the fake the corners would move more towards the middle and my Qb would throw over their heads to the wideout. The wideout would only have to beat the safety and even when he didn't it was a nice solid 5-7 yard gain. They tried cheating the safety up but I had the center running a pattern deep on that side and we would fake pump to the wideout and hit the center. So to counter they spread the corners back out to cover the wideouts. Then I began running up the middle effectively. Also, I had the center go left a few yards and then slip in behind the rusher for a simple 3 yard pass right in the middle with lots of room to run. Another play I had which worked well regardless of where the corners played was to have my slot receiver run directly at the 7 yard rusher mark (a bean bag actually). It gave the receiver and QB a reference to aim at. The QB popped him as he approached that mark for an easy gain.

Teaching Focus And Being Serious

Sorry if I've been spamming this board but just really had a few questions that I've come across as the tournament is coming up for me and that the final things are getting wrapped up. I noticed two things as we were going through our plays for the first time. First was execution was poor. That's fine...first time for us running plays but overall, I do think we did. We ran a few plays with the guys from our church (church tournament) and they were WALKING...dropped balls, incompletes, poor execution. I think that may just be due to the guy issue but I expected a bit more. This, I think, will attribute to first time and just going against them.

The more concerning thing is that these girls lose focus sometimes. That they don't realize how competitive our tournament will be. I don't want to instill the "I'm happy to be there" mentality and really want to teach to give 110% effort. We're here to play as a team and have fun but at the same time, we're a lot better than this and have talent that will help us out.

How would you teach/preach focus and being serious? I'm thinking that the hard way to learn this lesson is show up for the tournament and get our butts handed to us and then we will realize what is going on and then get serious...not sure what to do here guys. Any advice/input? Thanks ahead of advance!

Things To Remember For Day Long Tournament?

Hey guys! Throwing another one at ya! The tournament I am joining is going to be the whole day and I wanted to keep my team (girls if that matter) fresh and healthy and such. So I was thinking of emphasizing this:

1) Stretch
2) Hydrate
3) Eat bananas (cramps?)

I also will be switching out some of the positions that have a lot of tasks (RB, rushers, some WRs, etc). Are there any other things I need to consider when planning for this tournament? Thanks!

Speed Advantage Advice

I'm playing the top team in my 5v5 9-11 league QB can't run. I have mostly 9 yr olds but they're fast and shifty. Speed is my advantage. Passing is king in this league defenses don't miss many flags. Problem is I don't have a solid QB...enough to run a few pass plays to keep them guessing but I want to Run more. I have the standard stable of misdirection, sweeps, reverses and fakes.

Please give you're feedback on this idea. I was thinking of two RB's in a deep wishbone formation. They just run straight at the line so they're up to speed by the time the reach the QB. Qb takes snap under center turns with back to D and hands off. I figure I can have him flash it out to one side or the other to freeze LB's and keep a rusher guessing. Also run the sole WR in motion for a sweep or fake sweep before or after the RB's clear the QB.

I think they'd adjust to it quickly so I may be back to my standard playbook by the half but if I can put a couple quick ones up while their guessing it could be my only chance.

LONG WINDED I KNOW BUT PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK.

Picks

We ran into a team that effectively used picks against us. They were really good at it especially for short yardage and one even broke for a long TD. They would do it during short yardage situations by creating a screen and then run a short drag pass in front of the screen. Basic setup was something like this. Two wideouts and third receiver next to center. They would bring one of the wideouts in motion and he'd line up on the other side of the center. On the snap two of the middle guys ran about 3 yards forward and created a screen. The other would delay for a second and drag in front of the screen. It was an easy 2 yards and since the receiver was running, he'd have a nice head of steam running around the screen for more.

Any thoughts on how to defend it?

Practicing Plays

I have been coaching flag for 4 years (not all head coach)with last year being the best (8-9 yr olds). We basically had 2 formation, running lots of end reverses and dbl reverses. It was easy because even if we passed, everyone did the exact same thing. The problem was by the end of the year the defense started to catch on to runs and the offense got boring.

I have looked at ALL of the play books on here and read all the great advice. My question is with only 2 practices before gametime (we don't start till Nov. 14th (10-11 yr olds)), how many formations should I try and get the kids use to? How many plays is enough? Do you actually give play books out. When I have given the playbook out last year NOBODY looked at them outside of practice. Do you require the QB's to try and memorize all the plays? I did have a question about getting the play going on time, but just read on that. We never really had a time limit before this year.

I am going to the wristband colors for simplification, and naming the plays to reflect exactly what is going on ex. Trips left hb fake red flag, the point out the other routes.

Thanks in advance,
