I contacted the guy that owns the company and many use it especialy in the pros he is in with the MARLINS and on an interesting note got the funds to make this product by winning a hole in one at a golf outing (why cant I do that?)anyway check it out if you ice.

Best Youth (8 Year Old) Glove?

I have a 7 1/2 year old that plays machine pitch and is constantly improving his skill set. He can catch well and is improving his glove placement and glove to throwing hand movement, but he gets the ball in the glove (in the pocket about 90% of the time - only to have it fall out of the end of the glove. His hands are small. He has a Mizuno GPL1100 with all the features in the world to help, but it has no thumb or pinky strap to adjust to this hand size. It has a outside pouch for his thumb to help him close it?!?!? We are moving to travel ball, and he needs a glove that he can close and hold the ball into. We have looked at two gloves that we like - the Louisville H21100 Youth with the zero gravity back and the Rawlings Pro Taper Youth 10.75". Both have both a pinky and thumb strap to help adjust sizd and are suppose to be made for smaller hands. Could really use some advice...............................

Head First Slide

I was watching a very good, close game last night in our AAA little league championship. There was a close play at the plate where the catcher had good position, the throw was a little late, but the runner went head first into the catcher and knocked him back. He actually went more shoulder first into him, intentionally knocking him back, or "trucking him" as my son would say. The runner is a very good player but very wild. He's been warned about his head first slides before. The ump called the kid out AND they threw him out of the game. I had seen this kid do the head first slide before against my son's team and I saw him get issued a warning. I appreciate the league stepping up and making the call, I think it was the right one.

Advice On Mental Hitting For Youth

Hi all,

New to this forum and to coaching youth baseball. My own baseball playing career took me up through Division I NCAA and I was fortunate to work with many, many excellent coaches in my career. Because of these, I learned a lot about teaching the physical side of baseball, and I'm having a lot of fun passing that on to a great group of youngsters.

However, what I need help with is the mental side. I was fortunate that I always had a pretty upbeat attitude during my career and rarely got into mental slumps. So, I don't have much experience in how to coach kids out of psyching themselves out.

The biggest issue I have right now is that the "best" player on our team is not hitting in games. He's a really exceptional athlete - I've heard he plays up one age level in travel soccer and hockey, and he's far and away the most physically gifted kid on our team. He's our #1 pitcher and has a 0.00 ERA and a 0.50 WHIP. He fields like Scott Rolen. He crushes the ball in practice. But, in games, he's gotten ONE HIT so far this year - an infield single that he legged out on a pretty weak ground ball to third.

Clearly, his stumbling block is mental. He puts so much pressure on himself to carry the team and perform in games that he's stiff and frozen at the plate. There's nothing wrong with his fundamentals. More practice won't help - he does everything as perfectly in practice as any 10-year-old can can be expected to do.

Even though our team is winning and he's pitching well, my heart breaks for him every game because he so badly wants to hit and show what he can do. The harder he tries, the worse it gets.

Those of you who have been coaching kids for a long time, I'm sure you've seen this before. What tips and techniques do you have for kids who can't relax in games, whose minds won't let their bodies do what they know how to do?

Many thanks in advance!

My Nephew (11) Is Throwing Curveballs

This weekend I was talking with my brother. We live in different states but both of us have sons that also pitch in little league. He said something about my nephew (11) throwing a curveball and I was like huh? He's allowed to throw curveballs? That seemed strange to me as all I've ever heard is that throwing curves can be dangerous for a developing arm. Heck, pitching in general is probably not that great but our league greatly restricts the number of pitches a young kid can throw. My son only pitches 1 inning per week and typically will throw less than 25 pitches. I'm going to try to provide my brother with some evidence or information since he seemed to think nothing of it. Anyone have any suggestions?

Drills For T-ball To Prevent Kids From Getting Hit In The Side Of The

I'm helping some coaches on a t-ball team (5-6 year olds) and we are having problems with kids in the infield not tracking the ball and getting hit by throws in the outfield or from others in the infield. Actually, there are probably 2 problems: (1) kids throwing balls when the target kid isn't ready and (2) target kids not being ready. Anyone have any drills to help train kids to watch the ball in the field?

Youth Catcher's Equipment

I'm desperate seeking buying advice on Youth Catcher's equipment. This is my son's second year in little league and next year he'll be moving up to the 10-11 age group in our league. He's caught this season and did such a fine job behind the plate he secured an invitation to play with the leagues travel team. That season will continue up to the end of July. I promised to get him an outfit of his own but have no idea what I'm looking at. I'd like to get something better than the league equipment each team is issued for the kids to use, but something not so expensive I'll take a unnecessary hit when he outgrows the set. The boy is growing like a weed. So far I've been looking hard a the Mizuno Samuri line, the Easton Natural line, something called Rhino (not sure whose that by). I just could use any help and advice from folks more familiar with the equipment.
