  5. I am looking for some advice my assistant coach and I can't seem to agree on practice days for flag 9-10 year olds. He wants to do a Friday evenings as a day, I am trying to tell him that might not be a good idea because from past experience you loose kids always someone is missing its hard to have a consistant practice. So could I have some thoughts on that good or bad so either I can be persuaded or I can show him from other experiences that its not a good idea. Thanks a bunch, Chef44
  6. Hey everyone my name is Joe Crespi I am from Boise Idaho. I grew up in a very athletic family my brother was an all american in wrestling so the standards were set high for me as the youngest child I lettered in three sports wrestling, track, and football. Although football is my love of all three. I was an All State runningback 1st Team SIC and a State Champion Pole Vaulter I played some JC collage football but nothing futher than that. I have four kids and my oldest is 9 years old this is his fourth season of flag. Last year was my first year coaching football and on the first day I was hooked I knew from there on out this is what I want to do for the rest of my life. My first year coaching we won the championship for the 7-8 year olds sophmore group it was amazing. This year I decided to be a head coach and I am so excited I can't sit still. I am coaching 9-10 year olds so the rules are a little different you all know you can rush at this age group. I found this forum a couple of weeks ago and its awesome I check it every day and found tons of ideas, I look forward to chatting with all of you about everything and your teams for the seasons ahead.
  7. Hey coach well I usually keep it consistent with every game yes we stretch and run 1 or 2 laps around the field, then do the usual warm up stretch, jumping, jacks, high knees, side steps, back peddling just to get them loose. Then we line up and run routes for a while, then we run our offensive plays a few we have planed for the game. You usually get to take the field as soon as the other game a head of you is over and that usually gives us about 10 minutes before the game starts so we line up in the endzone and do a check list make sure we are all ready put on eye paint get them pumped up then we line up and finish running our offense before the refs call for captains. The biggest thing for me though is like I said be consistent.
  8. Thanks to all of you that responded I was sure that was the case but all your information was very helpful oh and I can't waite for spring ball and to find out who my kids are two more months and we are playing our city just added the tournament to this season it used to be just fall now its both.

  10. Hey everyone I am new to Y-coach and I have to say its terrific lots of great information. This is my second year coaching youth flag football and its my first as head coach. I was thinking of a play were the center direct snaps the ball to the running back is this legal in flag? My thought was having the center shotgun snap the ball to the runningback and he can take off just not sure. Please someone clarify this for me so I don't waste my time on this play.
