Orange 26 Report post Posted September 1, 2008 My league does not allow this. I've really never understood why. Just curious if your league does, and what the reasoning is behind disallowing it.ThanksWho knows why they disallow it? We can hand the ball to the center but it cannot be back between his legs. This was used against us two times in the fall tournament. Once it worked well and the second time not so well.
rushbuster70 16 Report post Posted September 1, 2008 Centers are not able to take handoffs in our i9 league. When I coached a city league they could do that and scored a TD on us one time.2nd time we shut it down.
Johnp2 21 Report post Posted September 1, 2008 The only thing I can think is they are trying to deter the "quick-hand off", which really doesn't make sense, as I have some "up the middle" runs where my RG runs by the C as soon as the ball is snapped and takes the hand-off. I can understand disallowing the QB handing it back to the C between his legs---but they should disallow that instead of taking all hand-offs away from him. I'm lobbying our Sports Director to revisit this rule. He's pretty open and solicits feedback via email from all the coaches. I think if all the coaches agree to allow it, not sure why he would not change it.

CoachScott 0 Report post Posted September 30, 2008 Our league allows it - but they also stress learning the game of football. Since that play cannot be run at any other level of football I don't see the point of running it. I don't run it and brought it up at the league meeting that if we are trying to teach good football then why do we allow it. Last season in 4/5 grade, the other coach ran that a couple times, At the end of the game i told him about teaching sound football and that play doesnt fit the bill. At the end of the season he told me that made sense and he never ran it again.

Everyone but the C can take a hand-off, which makes little sense to me. I'm asking that it be allowed in our league this year as all it does it punish whomever is playing Center.
