  1. Thanks for the responses guys. Oh yeah, I obviously mean getting him ready for the freshman team. Without getting too deep, this high school has produced some good players who haven;t started until their senior years (one is a prominant NFLer). The one plus is that this school gets kids from lots of different programs as it does not get kids from one school district. One coach told me kids from some programs are ready while they have to reteach and break bad habits of kids from other programs. I will look into camps and talk to a coach or two. I want to stay as far away as I can from being a meddling parent. I can't stand it with my baseball team, and I wouldn't want to be perceived like that in another sport. Also, I know the coaches will find the position he is best suited for. thanks again, BNG.
  2. Hi coaches, I hope this is appropriate for this forum. My son is in 8th grade and has never played competitive football, but is an above average athlete in basketball and baseball (I'm not bragging about him and would never say that without being anonymous, but it gives a frame of reference for my comments). he has a good arm and good size and has been a leader in his other sports. he would like to play football in high school and I think he will do well with it. It is a serious program (the team is ranked 1 in the state and top ten in the country at this time). My question is, what does he need to do in order to be ready when next august rolls around? No matter what he will have a big learning curve, but is there anything he can do over the coming months to minimize any lag he may have in the training/drills/skills aspects? Contrary to this post, I will be hands off after giving him any suggestions I get here (I'll stick to hoops and baseball, thanks). I appreciate any input. BlackNGold20
