  1. Wow, You sound like my dad! I'm still in highschool, but coacing my sister's team. I'm trying my best to not be like my dad! When i was young (like your son) my dad would make me do everything in his power to get myself into that starting position in soccer, basketball, and volleyball. We have alot of favoritism and teachers kids being the star player in our school. I hated him for it. Now, i'm playing as a starting setter (for volleyball), starting defender (in soccer), and starting point guard (in basketball). Let your son play like he wants... then he can see how much he really appriciated your help. Maybe he doesn't want to play basketball. You can't make him live out your dreams. Sit him down and talk to him, let him express his feelings without your "well in the long run i'll be right" concept. He's prolly a great kid, i'm guessing, so don't pressure him to do something he doesn't really wanna do!
  2. I am coaching my younger sister's volleyball team (USVB). They are in 7th grade. I am still in highschool, so the girls think that i'm easy going and they think that they can do whatever they want. I want them to get the most out of what i'm trying to teach them. Do i act like i'm a "hard, get down to business" coach or do i act like one of them, just at a higher level? If anyone can give me advice on how to make it simpilar for them to learn a 5-1 rotation (they aren't the quickest bunch), and how to have more ball control, i'd greatly appriciate it!
