  1. Great advice guys thanks. I'll throw it in this week at practice!!!!
  2. I do normally send a rusher. I think not sending one gives the QB too much time to find someone open. In man coverage - Do you have them line up right at the LOS opposite the offensive player?..basically bump-and-run coverage. Or do you put them back 2-3 yds? Obviously it depends on how far they need to go for a 1st down or TD. On Saturday, in goaline situations we were playing a 3-2 zone (3 DBs at the 7 yd mark and 2 LBs about 3 yd off LOS). Rest of the game we played 5 across(rushed), 3-2(rushed) or 2-3(no rusher) zones. I have not tried the 1-3-1 or 4-1 yet. Thanks!
  3. I'm a lurker/newbie posting here, so go easy on me if topics have already been discussed. I coach in a NFL flag 5v5 league for a 9-11 yr old team. I'm looking for ideas to try and improve my teams short yardage and goalline defense. I've had my boys (at least 5-6 of them are fast athletic) primarily run a zone with 1 rusher (7yds back) and we get burned on it most of the time. Mainly because a WR will get behind them, get in front or we'll leave too big of a soft spot wide open. I'm thinking of trying man with a rusher. What have you guys found to be successful? Thanks in advance, Lee
  4. "We preach Swarming at every practice and in our scrimmages, my ball carriers do not stop running until both flags are pulled. Our defenders do not stop pursuing until both flags are pulled, which usually results in most of the defense swarmed around the ball carrier." That's a great idea ....thanks!!!!!!!!!
