  1. Thank You Charlie! Great advice for all!! I will start working on his confidence. You sound like a very good coach with a good head on your shoulders! I wish they could all be that way!
  2. You didn't upset me but that really wasn't want I was looking for. First, I'm didn't want him to go home and leave the game......that was the Dad. Second, he wasn't allowed to play in the game any longer because they sent in another player to run for him. I don't know our rules but that is what I was told. The coaches were fine with him going home mainly because he isn't a top rated player. They play for blood if you know what I mean! I have 2 boys and they are by far babied. Each have a totally different personality. The older is just bashful and not an aggressive player. I just would like to break him out of the shell! Our baseball season has really stunk here. It has rained for a week now and is to continue raining next week and the temperature is in the low 40's in the evening. That is 20 degrees lower than our norm. It has been a bad start!
  3. This is my first post and I've been reading a lot. Background.....this is my 9 year olds first year at playing baseball. He wanted to play last year but it was to late to sign up. He is in the minors (9-10 yrs old). My son is very bashful and not aggressive at all. We've played 3 games. He isn't the best but wants to get better. His coaches aren't the most friendly with first timers so that doesn't help. The first game went fine, second.....not. He was knocked down by the catcher when he came into home and took a pretty hard hit to the leg. Okay .....he got teary eyed but got over it. He didn't get to bat again that night. Tonight in the rain and cold, first time up to bat he took a hard hit from the pitcher in the leg. He got upset and went to the bench and said he couldn't run. Of course Dad took him home because he was alreadly upset over playing in the rain. Basically, how do I get my son to toughen up?? He wants to play so bad but he is having a hard time. I'm hoping you "wise" coaches can give me some good advice!
