  1. I really liked the football coaching bible. Another book I just got through reading is "When the Game Stands Tall." A book about the longest wiining streak in sports history. A story about the coaching philosophies and traits that carried Bob Ladouceur for a 151 game wiining streak.
  2. I had the same problem a few games back. Our stud athlete who plays running back as well as middle linebacker had grown timid after a few games. I believe it had to do with the stress of carrying the team. He would get blown up a few times each game and his aggressive nature started to wain. About 5 games into the season he would always get hurt (not sure if he was faking)on his first few runs. I believe it had to do with us as coaches, expecting him to carry the load of the team. He has since lost interest in being a part of the team and I believe it had to do with poor coaching judgement. However I have a close relationship with the boy outside of football and try to be a positive influence being that I took him under my wing after finding out that he was raised by just his mother. Just thought Id share.
  3. Yeah, speed option will annihilate that 5-3 and if your qbs got a gun play action all day. If you spread one of your TE's, the slant should be open. Run leads off tackle all day.
  4. Heres a trick play out of the trips. Its a one shot deal. First offensive play, come out lined up trips to the wide side of the field. no. 1 reciever on the line, 2 and 3 off the line, single back (FB), QB under center. Motion singleback up to the QB and out towards the No. 2 slot(should have a quads look), and have him break up field as soon as he gets next to the no. 2 slot. The no. 2 slot will take a large step back and QB will throw a quick lateral pass to him(no.2), at the snap no. 1 reciever will run a slant off the line in the face of the corner, single back will run a sail route(corner route) and no. 3 slot will run a skinny post to occupy the safety and the backside reciever should run an outside release route. The no. 2 slot will throw a pass to the single back,(who motioned out of the backfield) who should be uncovered. The no.2 slot could choose to take the ballupfield and treat it as a type of screen pass. Another crucial element is the cadence of the QB should be in sync with the singleback as he motions out toward no. 2 slot. The ball should be snapped just as he approaches no. 2 slot. This play could be difficult for 8,9,and 10 year olds but if mastered could be a giant killer. I have coached for four years and have had great success with this play, putting up points on numerous occasions. Kids cannot adjust to this set quick enough and almost always attack the first throw. I call this play Trips RT motion quads Slot choice. ------------------------------------------FS------------------------------------ --------------------------------------------------------LOLB-------------C --------------------C-----------ROLB----MLB----------------SS--------------- -------------------------------DE----DT--DT--DE------------------------- -------------------X--------------X--X--O--X--X-------------------------1 -----------------------------------------QB-------------3--------2 -----------------------------------------FB
  5. A book that was very inspirational and will shed some light on what it takes to be a great coach is, When the game stands tall. A book about De La Salle and the longest winning streak in history. It gives some insight of what it takes to be great at coaching on and off the field!
  6. Some kids dont comprehend as well as others! Ive found that if you put a kid down in a kneeling positon(one knee down) and have them put that same hand directly in front and have them get off of the knee, they seem to get the three point really fast! We have all our Dline get down on one knee while their waiting for opposition to call a play.
  7. B- usually backside, W-weakside, M- Middle, $- strongside
