  1. Hi, My kid changed leagues this year and the teams that we play are at higher standard. The other teams have a least one big kid who is at least a foot taller and most of the other kids are faster and/or bigger. The great news I’M NOT THE HEAD COACH. We have a great Coach who coaches I think 5 teams (different ages) and been doing it for years. We have won a few games believe it or not. The league rules is no backcourt press until the last 10 minutes. My kid plays the 2 position and always has a hard time getting open for a pass from the other guard at half court. He got benched for turning the ball over 3 times in a row. Are there any videos that can show him V-Cuts, L-Cuts and back door cuts? I need to show him how to get open without moving into the side and getting trapped. Thanks, David
  2. Hi All, Last year I had seven 2nd graders. This year I have 12 kids. Ten 3rd graders and two 2nd graders. There are about 3-4 really good players. How do you rotate 12 kids on a team? ( Make the parents happy and still win games). Thanks, David
  3. Hi Rob Im in the same boat, I coached a 2nd graders team of 7 kids last year for the first time.( PS thanks for the reply last year) Now I got a team of ten 3rd graders and two 2nd graders. Some kids were born with the talent. Let them use it. My kid probally had 10 steals the last game last year and had about 3 or 4 the first game this year. I would teach the kids to look for the steal of a pass. I also, agree in what you say about not reaching in. I allways tell the kids to keep their hands up in the air. Some times it looks like tackle football. My son actually came home with deep nail marks in his hand. I told him it was the price of fame. The team we played the first game was the team that he outscored last year in the finals. Last game the reff only called about 5-8 fouls. I would just tell them the truth - go for the ball and not the hands. I have the same question. I would like to teach them some set plays. Especially when they are triple teaming my kid and the other good players. It would be nice if they could actually finish a fast break. Thats the problem. They all stop like Shaq and wait on defense. They really don't get the ideal that the fast break needs to be with 2 or 3 players. Have fun this year, David
  4. I have never coached before in my life. In the middle of the season I opened my mouth so that they can split the team. The 3rd graders were not passing to the 2nd graders. So now I am the coach with one other father of the 2nd graders. How do you run drills or coach a team with only 5-7 kids. I have only 2 kids who can really dribble the ball, one who either shots the ball over the basket or backwards, and one kid who does not want to play (and he is the tall one). The kids on the other team are taller, practice and are real good. At least the boys are having fun and can play. We managed to put a 1hr practice after school tomorrow. Got any ideas? Will 2nd graders grasp set plays? Thank you, YME-David
