My son is playing football for the first time this year (10-12 year olds) and I am from the school of thought of soccor cleats for soccor, baseball cleats for baseball and football cleats for football. You know, the shoe for the sport. But I have seen some articles that the baseball cleat for football is a good idea because it provides a better balance for the youth player because the cleats are on the outer edge of the shoe. Any comments on this is appreciated. Buyng football cleats isn't the problem. I think you buy the equipment that you want to or can afford.
Thanks.

I would say let your son try the baseball cleats and see if they work for him. However, I personally think that the baseball cleats are not as comfortable as some of the football and soccer cleats that I have worn.

I think any cleat (at least as far as basebal/football go) is adequate for a 10-12 yr old league. Save your money and use same pair for both!

John,
I am of the same school of thought. Buy the shoe for the sport. Thats not to say other shoes for other sports won't work. My younger son used his last year football cleats (high-cut) all baseball season this year. He was happy w/wearing them and, beleive it or not, didn't whine about getting new baseball shoes. I would not however let him wear low cut shoes for football as in a soccer shoe or typical baseball shoe. I like for him to have more support for football as in a high ankle shoe or mid ankle shoe but never a low cut shoe. Again, I just think it is better for his young ankles to have more support as in the high-cut shoe.
