Hello everyone:

I plan on setting some rules up for my parents before the season starts so I can avoid some things. I.E. They can't come to me after a game and ask and complain about something. They have to wait a day and then they can contact me about it. And also if a girl is late for practice then her playing time might get reduced somewhat. But I wanted to ask if you coaches can think of any other rules that I might want to consider.

Thanks,
Josh

One important rule that I can think of is - Let the coaches coach, don't try to coach your child or someone elses during the game.

Go to nba.com, then click on Jr NBA, then click on "parents." There's a list of things parents should want to know from the coach. It allows you to set the expectations and provide your rules.

Coach Steck,
Nice suggestion by LTC. I would add.... to have a team parents meeting before the start of the season if possible. Lay down the rules for them and field questions. Let them know what they can expect from you and your philosaphys and let them know what you expect from them. I like to also give them a brief document I have created in MS Word with all of the pertinent info they may expect and need such as practice times, places, contact numbers, chain of command for percieved problems, philosaphys and so on. I also like to place a copy of the league specific rules such as playing time etc.

Hey guys:

I havent seen this in awhile so I thought that I would check it. I had my first practice on Monday and layed down my rules. The parents accepted all of them, but they werent to happy when I closed practices to them....Oh well!! I dont want them in there! But other than that, things went well!

Thanks for the help!
Josh
