We'll just ahead of my 1st annual Katz Kamp and the preparation that's going into that making it a success for years to come I'm already(shame on me) planning for the upcoming basketball season.I've read somewhere about putting up charts easily accessible for the kids/players.What other motivational tools(not speeches) can I use to get across to my players.Charts, saying guest speakers from time to time.etc.Need some ideas.I want to get a Cats Logo for them them to slap or a banner when they come out of the locker room that says something like PLAY LIKE CHAMPIONS or something like that.My soon to be wife wants to be the Asst coach and that will help for me to devote more 1-on-1 to a certain player.I've already got some ideas and will incorportate a websight to keep the lines of communication ongoing as thats a must.Any other ideas would be a plus. Thanks!!!

Incorporating your team into the process is a great tool for generating motivation momentum.  Have all kids submit suggestions for a season slogan, mantra, whatever.  This could take the form of something printed and posted or for a larger and more personal investment, have t-shirts made up with the slogan(s).

Kids taking ownership for the "care and feeding" of their team is very powerful at building strength, unity and confidence.

I'll get you started:  "Kickin Athletes Training Zone",  "Kool Athletes Training Zone"

Hope this helps the creative juices flow.

I'd have mini competitions with awards. Awards for best 3 vs 3 team in a mini tourney during camp. Best hustler, best shooter, best dribbler, best attitude, etc. At that age, I think it's important to create "game like" situations and reward those who rise to the occasion. Could even come up with some awards for the players who can do some of your drills the best. Maybe an overall winner each day who gets to wear a special practice jersey the next day.
