I am an Elementary School Teacher, based in the UK, who is planning to introduce 5 on 5 Flag Football to 9 and 10 year olds.
Crazy, some might say, especially as a high majority of the children have never watched ANY American Football and therefore do not even understand the rules.
I REALLY want this to work, but, more importantly, this has to be FUN.
So... I'm looking for FUN ways to introduce the sport and the rules. Does anybody have any training tips that will allow me to get this embedded in the school?
Thanks!

Keeping it fun requires that your coaches understand that is your primary focus. A few ideas to keep it fun:
1) Let the teams pick their own names
2) Give an award for the most creative team name
3) Give an award for the most creative team chant/cheer
4) Require that every player gets ball touches in a game (attempted pass reception or hand off)
5) Pick coaches that share your vision of "fun"
6) Have your coaches use game-like drills in practice (looking on this site should produce more than enough)
7) Give out sportsmanship awards
8) If you plan on giving out medals at the end of season, make the kids do their best dance move before getting medal/trophy
A big part of the fun will be playing the game, kids like to run around.
