My son is 8 years old and is in his first year of youth football. When he runs you can hear his feet stomp. This is a clear indication that he is putting too much force downward. Does anyone know how I can help him focus on putting more force forward and reduce the amount of force downward? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Coach,

Go to www.gregorydoublewing.com and click on youth development. I have a manual that I created on youth speed development that will help you out. It goes over teaching run mechanics.

My suggestion is do a dynamic warm up routine with him three times a week...it goes over basic running/movement mechanics and then work on his specific problems.

If you have any questions please feel free to email me and I will give you any assistances I can.

Thank you for the reply. I downloaded the guide and it appears to be very useful. Now it is a matter of educating myself in order to teach him proper mechanics.
