Please read the following rules taken directly from the NFL 5 0n 5 rule book.
Mercy Rule: After one team is winning by twenty eight points or more, the losing team gets one offensive series to continue regulation play. If they do not score, the game goes into scrimmage mode playing up to the fifteen minute mark in the second half if time allows. After the fifteen minute mark, the game is over.
Scrimmage Mode: The losing team gets the ball for up to three possessions. Each possession lasts until the team scores or fails to achieve the Line-To-Gain. Points do not count in final score. After three possessions the game is over.
What do your leagues do in interpreting these rules?
How do you interpret these rules?
We run 5 fields each Saturday and can not seem to come to a general consensus of the correct interpretation of the rules.

Have not had a whole lot of feedback from posting my playbook on the "Scoring Philosophy" thread.
Keep in mind that my kids are a bit older than the kids that most of you coach.
These guys can really get down field in a hurry.
The Championship game last season was really spectacular.
Lost by a point becuase we were unable to convert from the 1ft line.
Wow! What a game.
Could'nt get the kids emotions under control, we will fix that this season.
Teenagers. Need I say more.

Coaching Certification Or Education
20 January 2009 - 07:17 PM
What do your leagues require as far as Coaching Certification or Education prior to a coach starting each season?
Do you feel that these programs are needed?
What programs have you used?
Are all coaches required to participate?
What about parents?
What is lacking in these programs?
Thanks

Scoring Philosophy
14 January 2009 - 06:34 PM
While this topic is unilateral with all levels of football it's now approaching flag season for me so the focus will 5 on 5 NFL flag.
Being a seasoned coach and league administrator I have found that many coaches no matter what level of play put together these fantastic play books that are capable of putting points on the board but do very little to formulate a scoring philosophy.
Ask yourself this.
What is the sole purpose of your offense?
While there are a few important by-products of an effective offense the primary focus is to score points.
Other than lining up and running your favorite plays, do you really have a plan?
If we do not formulate some form of scoring phlisophy or plan for our team we might win games, but we will never get over that hump.
We will always come up short against those really tough opponents that don't make things easy for us.
Any ideas?
Where do we begin?
