Hi Coach,

I agree with the other coaches with teaching your linemen to keep their hands in, thumbs up, head, feet driving technique.

As for "rules", we follow the GOOB rule:

Gap
On
Over
Backside

1. GAP - We teach our linemen to block playside gap first. We stress to our line that without them, the RB cant run. Drive the man out of the hole.

2. ON/OVER - We then teach them that if there is no defender in the gap, block the man on or over you (EX- a G blocking a LB in a 53 formation)

3. Backside - By this we mean if there is no defender in the gap, on you head up or over you, block a LB or DB downfield to stop angle of pursuit

I know this may seem like alot of info for 8-9 yr olds but dont sell them short. Explain and show them that a blitzing LB in the gap will get the tackle before the DT.

Granted, it will take time for these kids to grasp it but when they do, you'll be amazed at how well your offense clicks.

Send me an email if you haev any questions.

Good Luck,
