Coach,
3 timeouts in the final 20 seconds with a 13 -0 lead is running up the score and classless in my opinion. A
20-0 score is not that bad but the fact that the game was in hand and the coach is calling timeouts to put another one on the board is. In our league the refs are instructed not to honor timeouts in the forth qtr if the winning team is trying to put another one on the board with the game in hand.
In regards to backups in the backfield with a 34 -0 advantage I really dont care who is running the ball as long as your not running reverses and sweeps with that kind of a lead. Running up the middle and running clock shows class and gets a game thats out of reach over befor someone gets hurt. Just my opinion.

coach,
I have a sixteen man squad as well so here is what we do. After we have warmed up I take the QB and backs and practice 4 plays for 30 minutes while this is happening my O-line coach takes the 7 players from the line and practices blocking drills against each other for 15 minutes and then has them work as a unit practicing firing off the line and lining up with the proper splits for the next 15 min. My third coach takes the remaining 5 players that have to have starting positions on defense and works with them on tackling drills and containing sweep plays (3 of them are small and play CB and safety for us). After this 30 minute session with the individual coaches we spend the last 45 min. of practice with the full starting off. against the 5 def. players All 5 play defensive line which really toughens those little guys up (we call them the killer smurfs) and i would put our smurfs against anyone in the league . This will give your offense a chance to get cohesive and although your little guys may not play D-line it really gives them confidence going against the bigger guys and they will not be afraid come game time. let us know how your season is going.

Coach Winston,
By the way now that I have thoght about it I like your idea about moving the safety up and playing a 63 with the safety becoming the MLB,then I can spread my to stud LBs out a little more for those dreaded sweeps.Thank You for the idea! I owe you one!

Coach Winston,
Sorry coach I forgot about the safety. We have the safety play the middle of the field (dead center)no matter what hash mark the ball is on and in 62 I call both linebackers MLBs because in our 44 both DE drop back to LB depth to give us a 44 look and then they truley are MLBs while the DEs become OLBs.

Coach Winston,
Our corners play on the LOS when we run goal line 62 and we have the corner with no receiver in front of him simply box to contain the sweep or reverse . The other corner with the receiver in front of him covers tjhe receiver unless he sees sweep then he has to help contain.Since our LBs cant blitz they look middle first then outside and if it is a sweep hopefully the corners turn it in to them.IF our MLB sees a full house backfield he tells both corners to box. Try not to give the kids too much to think about.
