Hey Coach Short.

Unfortunately we switched to 6v6 three seasons ago, and I no longer even have my 8v8 playbook. I think if you look, however, you should be able to find some sample plays 8v8 plays I posted here.

With that, I'm happy to provide some tips for 8v8 and what we did. You can use much of this to create your own playbook---something I would encourage any new coach to try---as once you get into to it your creative juices will start flowing and you can devise things that are specific to your own personnel.

1. As for positions, I had two WRs, one Slot Reciever, two Guards, one Center, one RB, and one QB.

2. Neither position got the ball more than the other. In fact, my first season coaching, our LG was our offensive player of the year.

3. Are you allowed to block? If not, I would work on having your team run routes into their defenders. By that, if you have a running play, simply send your other players on various routes but have them run them so that they screen a defender. You are essentially disguising your blocks. If you are allowed to block let me know and I will go into detail as to how we blocked (with Guards it's fun because you can pull and trap).

4. Always have a primary and secondary receiver for passing plays and ensure your QB knows how to go through that progression. It's very difficult to have your QB just "pick" whoever is open due to so many defenders.

5. Fakes, fakes, and more fakes. The idea, as I believe it, is that when facing eight defenders, you need to do everything in your power to get them leaning in the opposite direction.

I hope this helps some. If you have any specific questions, post them in the Flag Football forum and I will help as I can.

Thanks
