Things To Remember For Day Long Tournament?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys! Throwing another one at ya! The tournament I am joining is going to be the whole day and I wanted to keep my team (girls if that matter) fresh and healthy and such. So I was thinking of emphasizing this:

1) Stretch

2) Hydrate

3) Eat bananas (cramps?)

I also will be switching out some of the positions that have a lot of tasks (RB, rushers, some WRs, etc). Are there any other things I need to consider when planning for this tournament? Thanks!

Consider what to do in the downtime between games. We had a weekend tournament and with a long amount of time between a couple of games we had the kids at someone's house nearby to watch a movie.

Orange hit on it. I have never been in an allday FF tournament, but I have with baseball. Control the kids! They will be excited and want to run around like crazy between games and if you have a long wait they will get plum tuckered out. If you have over a two hour wait, have a small healthy lunch where everyone sits together and eats very slowly. Put the kids in groups and play little games. Good Luck!

I am unsure if there are breaks but if is similar to the ones I participated in a few years back, usually the only break we get is if there is an hour break for lunch or no game scheduled which would only be an hour. Probably just resting up through that time and just going over a few things would probably be good. My girls are great...they won't go all over the place. :)

Thanks guys!

Our team will be in our first all day tournament next weekend, and it will be the first I've been in, but here is an idea that I may use next weekend.

Since your girls are older and probably more focused than the 9 & 10 yr olds I coach, I would take note cards with you that have all the little things that you try to coach in practice but doesn't always sink in to the kids, and go over those things in the breaks you have.

Stuff like WR-X, on this slant route make sure you give a little shimmy to the outside before breaking on the slant to the inside. Remember to keep your eyes on the QB after the turn and be ready for the ball. Always watch the ball all the way into your hands nad tuck the ball before running.

It seems like a great opportunity to cement the little nuance things things into their heads.

I like this a lot especially since it's something we need to work on. I definitely taught that you do some kind of move to get you extra open and to expect it RIGHT when you turn and such. Good stuff!
