Coach Rob 26 Report post Posted March 17, 2010 Starting a new season this weekend, playing in the 11-14 y/o age division, most of my kids are 11, one 12 and a few 10's. We usually go with some type of animal, but I was thinking of throwing out something different this year. Not sure my kids are old enough to appreciate some of these, although most of them are pretty mature for their age. Team HuevosOne Girl (we only have one girl playing on the team)Unnecessary Roughness (might be a bit much for our league)Illegal MotionDown and OutThe Hail Mary'sIllegal FormationRed DogsXs & OsFlying BurritosScreamin' EaglesBlack DogsThe Drew BreesNeed to come up with about three names for the kids to choose from this weekend. Something tells me they'll want the adjective with an animal name.Looking for other suggestions.

Johnp2 21 Report post Posted March 18, 2010 This is a great thread. Each season, we make a HUGE deal out of our team name. Basically, I let the players select it. Below is how we do it:1. At the first practice, I inform the team I will not conduct practice until we have a team name.2. I have a "tournament of names", which consists of 16 team names, much like the NCAA Basketball "bracket".3. I go through each of the pairings, and ask the kids to vote on which one they like best between the two names.4. We continue this until we have a champion, which will be our team name.5. We have a "play in" name, that gives the kids an opportunity to select a name not already on the bracket.I will refrain from giving our team names (as I am worried about opposing coaches being on this board), but let's just say that over the past few seasons we have had some VERY unorthodox names---the kids all love it!Other rules in place: once we have a team name, it is never included in the bracket again in future seasons (I like each team to be unique). The only pro name we will ever use is the Dallas Cowboys, and we have already used that (my first season, no less). ;-)

Usually they just huddle up together and come out with a name. If some of the players don't like the play in name, they just vote against it in the first round. The key (as I've found) is to make them decide on their own---but fast. If you let them take their time coming up with a play in name--yes you will be there all season. Some of the more "serious names" we had on our bracket last season:Crazy CleatsBulldogsRaving RabidsWildcatsScorpionsAvengersRushCrazed Mud PuppiesHawksManiacsTerminatorsGladiatorsWild CatsPirhanasThe Wrecking Crew
Coach Rob 26 Report post Posted March 22, 2010 I used the 16 team bracket concept to pick a team name today, brought a white board, kids voted on each bracket and we watched the team names advance. My girl QB didn't take too kindly to my suggested "No girls allowed" team name. It took all of 10 minutes. Cool way to pick a team name. So out of the 16 names (used some of your suggestions), it game down to The Hail Mary's vs. The Screamin' Eagles (a name we've had for several seasons). Wouldn't you know it? Screamin' Eagles won. Sheesh. Still, I think the kids had fun with it.
plmqwk 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2010 Have add this one In our league the kids got a jersey with their favorite nfl team logo. on my team we had Packers, Bears, Jets, and Cowboys. To include everyone in the mix I used the first letter of each and came up with PB & J Chompers!!
